The Ektachrome effect

The Ektachrome effect

1

Those of a certain age will remember when magazines and books were full of photographs taken with Ektachrome film. The slightly muted shades are a classic from 50 or 60 years ago, but those images have stood the test of time. And we’ve looked to repeat that here as Clair The Cape Queen turned her talents to tweaking the images with the intention of scrolling back to the 1970s. We fervently believe it’s an utter success – what do you think?

      Hello Hans.
How lovely to receive your comment. The cape is a PUL one and I have to admit it was very much a welcome addition to a cold wet day. They are also surprisingly warm too.
May I ask what capes you were both wearing on your rainy icy outing? I’m glad you were well protected.
I’m still awaiting my PUL delivery and I cannot wait to show that here.
      Thank you.

    Hello Clair,
at the day of the ice rain i was wearing my green thick raincape and my wife used to wear once her blue cape and also once her transparent matt black cape. thanks to aou Capes we were very well protected. It reminds me at the time when i commuted
and i was worn a KLEPPER raincape many times. Its always a good feeling for us wrapped up in a raincape.

      Hello Hans.
How lovely to hear from you again. Your wife and yourself were most definitely well protected by the sounds of it. The colours you both have are wonderful and you have stylish and lovely colours for every occasion. Your thick green cape and your wife’s blue one are ideal to wear. It’s a very satisfying feeling when you are enclosed and covered. When the rain comes you are perfectly protected. You can fully enjoy your walks together without getting wet.
I have good news too. I have my PUL raincoat arrive. I opted for the thick black shiny Mac and I cannot wait to wear it and get some photos up here.
Please keep me updated with your cape adventures. I would love to see many more people wearing them.

I have a number of PUL capes that I love to wear in the rainy seasons here in NZ, and I notice this is the black with red backed PVC too. The rubbery feeling of that particular PVC is fantastic compared to the more standard PVCs. PUL did a couple of variations of capes that they stopped making called the “50’s cape” and the “70’s cape” both of which I purchased two of before they stopped making them.

The 70’s style cape is shorter, about 3/4 length has a double-breasted buttoned crossover type front. The other variation was a full length with the similar double-breasted button front. The exception was the longer of the two had two fold over type cuffs that your could put your hands through while the other had only arm slits.

I absolutely ADORE capes and cloaks, and have a collection of over 30 not only rain capes but velvet, wool, satin, rubber. I also have two actual leather, and faux leather capes which I tend to wear quite a lot.

Back onto the subject, I love the Ektachrome effect that you have used, it definitely brings back warm classic colour tones.

      Hello,
Thank you so very much for the wonderfully informative reply. What a joy to read. You are certainly covered for the NZ rainy season.
I do love a PUL cape. I own a few myself and most recently the shiny black pvc skirted mac. It’s a stunning fit that looks amazing and is practical.

Im glad you appreciate the red lined black cape & I wholeheartedly agree with the way that material stands out. That rubber feel adds to the experience. The weight gives a perfectly enclosed sensation.

How lucky you were to purchase the 50’s cape and the 70’s cape, they are perfect additions to your already extensive and growing collection.
I love leather capes…they instantly transform the way you feel. I also have two cloaks, one floor skimming and they are both velvet.
It’s a pleasure to know there are people like you who feel as I do about capes.
I thank you regards the images and the Ektachrome effect, it delivers a splendid vintage tone.
I will look forward to hopefully hearing from you in the near future and that you may share any new finds you may acquire.
      Regards Clair.

        Hi Clair,
Thank you for your reply. I think I might have found my new favorite website here! It’s wonderful to know that there is still a community of people who appreciate capes and cloaks as much as we do!

I love the sound of your cloaks too and would love to see them up on here at some stage.

Take care and keep caped. 🙂

          Hello again,

Apologies for the delay in my response. I am elevated to hear that you feel this may be your new favourite website. There is a small but thriving community of people that truly appreciate cloaks and capes. I need to get some photos of my collection of cloaks too. That might be a nice little sub post. Would you like to see them all? I have recently purchased a crushed velvet red hooded cloak. I am sure that will look great on. I am still waiting for the delivery. I am always happy to hear from you. Take care too and regards,
          Clair

      Hello Gerard,
I hope you are well. Thank you so much for your reply. Yes you are right the capes are prone to little tears on the arm slits. It’s a great idea that you repair them. It’s well worth doing and keeps them useable for a very long time. I do enjoy a walk on the moors wearing my cape of choice. They are an absolute joy to wear and I wish your wife and yourself many good adventures. Regards Clair
