The Dandy cape wearer

Get in! There’s no escaping the joy that copies of The Dandy brought to post-war British youngsters and come Christmas there was the added excitement of The Dandy annual.

On one of her recent town trips The Cape Queen came across a 1971 Dandy Christmas Annual – named ‘The Dandy Book” – and settled down on a park bench for a scroll back 55 years.

And despite what some say there’s no denying the rip-roaring laugh-out-loud happiness the book gave. In today’s sanitised, got-to-be-careful Christmas annual world, The Dandy Book was a fine reminder of simpler times.

And, of course, the book was perfectly matched to The Cape Queen’s 1970s blue number: book matching cape, or cape matching book? Who cares, it was just a great step back in time…
